Our Goals

The Future in Music Program is focused on promoting access to high quality education to brass players who are marginalized on the basis of gender or may not have such access.

Our mentorship program connects mentees who are high school classical and jazz brass players hoping to pursue a career in music with mentors who are undergraduate students at music schools across North America. The Future in Music Mentorship Program will launch in Summer 2022. In the meantime, we aim to provide resources such as resume and essay tips, audition preparation suggestions, financial aid information, and more.

It is important for there to be educational opportunities for EVERY brass player, to create gradual change and remedy race, gender, and other imbalances in the brass world.

Lifting As We Climb.

"Lifting as we climb" is part of a quote by Mary Church Tyrell, an activist for anti-racism and women's rights. The Future in Music Program is founded by an undergraduate music student. Our mentorship program is aimed to help high school brass players who may be marginalized because of their gender navigate the unique process of applying and auditioning to attend an institution of higher education to study music. The mentors in our program are all undergraduate brass musicians--we are students as well. We are dedicated to the idea that everyone deserves a high quality education in music if this is what they want, and that by uplifting underrepresented groups, we can contribute to equality in the brass world. This is our way of lifting as we climb.
